Opportunities
JOIN OUR TEAM OF DEDICATED VOLUNTEERSOur volunteers are a vital part of what we do at POVUCC. We would love for you to join our team and use your unique gifts to help others connect with God. If you are ready to put your time and talents to use, we have a place for you on our team! Below are a few of the many ways to get involved.
MEALS FOR STOREFRONT
2nd THURSDAY OF THE MONTHSupport the teens at Storefront, a homeless shelter in Hillcrest, by providing dinner for up to 12 people on the 2nd Thursday of each month.
How You Can Help:
Prepare and deliver a home-cooked or restaurant meal.
Purchase three $50 grocery gift cards to help facilitators buy food.
For more details on meals, click here. To get involved, contact Susan Namba at rknamba@cox.net.
A sign-up sheet is also available on the table in the narthex.
Your generosity makes a difference—thank you for helping feed those in need!
COMPASSION KITCHEN
EVERY 2ND & 4TH THURSDAY OF THE MONTHWhat is the Compassion Kitchen project? The Compassion Kitchen project is designed to feed both the bodies and souls of our most vulnerable neighbors in San Diego. POVUCC volunteers will come together to prepare simple meals that will then be delivered to a local service organization for distribution.
Why should I volunteer for this project? We, as Christians, are called to care for our neighbors and this is a wonderful way to live out that calling. Plus it's a chance to connect and work alongside fellow POVUCC members as we DO GOOD together. Lunch will be provided, so it's a great way to spend a meaningful morning with your church family.
How can you get involved? If you'd like to participate, simply show up at the church at 10 AM. Contact Pam Crusberg or Julie Lin for more info. Hope to see you there and can't wait to serve together!
KIKU BENTO DELIVERIES
TUESDAY MORNINGSWe need drivers to deliver bento meals to seniors in the Clairemont area every Tuesday morning.

Volunteer to help with club kikuWhat is Club Kiku? Club Kiku is a monthly gathering for seniors that fosters friendship, creativity, learning, and community. Meeting on the third Wednesday of each month at Pioneer Ocean View United Church of Christ, participants enjoy coffee and pastries, light exercise, activities, cultural programs, and a shared lunch. While rooted in the San Diego Japanese American community, Club Kiku is open to all seniors.
Volunteers are essential to making Club Kiku possible. Opportunities include:
Driving the golf cart to assist participants with mobility needs
Helping prepare, serve, and clean up lunch
Providing desserts or baked goods
Leading crafts, games, educational presentations, or other activities
Assisting with setup, hospitality, and welcoming guests
If you are interested in volunteering with Club Kiku, please contact the church office for more information.
